Who Am I – A Poem

Who Am I

Tell ‘em who I was, who I am, who I will become

Tell ‘em I started off as a seed who grew into a beautiful flower, but eventually died out

Speak of me as an only child, someone who experienced a lot of loss and pain

Who grieves more often than you can imagine

Tell ‘em I lost both parents, but I still continue to keep going everyday

Tell ‘em I got abused and never said a word

For the days I cried and cried, waiting for him to call my phone, what I wouldn’t do for another call

Tell her I’m trying to be someone she would be proud to call her daughter, never let her down if she were here

Speak of me as I always see the good in people

Tell ‘em I was respectful, unique, special

Brave and smart

Proud and respectful

Tell ‘em I miss her and would do anything for another conversation

Speak of me as I were there

Tell ‘em I was obsessed with the past, dwelling on shit I never had

It’s just sad that I don’t even have a dad

To show me

What love is supposed to be

Now I see no one is going to be there for me

But yet, some days tell ‘em I didnt want to get out of bed because everyone I’ve ever truly loved was dead

But I still had to face reality and get out of my head

We are all eventually growing up becoming who we want to be or a better version of ourselves

Don’t let anyone tell you different because you’re the only one with your vision to see

That who I am, I’m me
