Poetry Corner – 12/1

I Remember that Morning

I remember seeing the white light. Voice

Soft Spoken “It will be okay”.

That smile, how could I forget Aphrodite herself.

I remember waking and knew she was gone. Sound of my grandma telling me “you’re alone now”,

I remember it started to rain in my room, the storm just got worse,

I remember the lightning and the thunder of rage before the hurricane. I threw it all—I was the hurricane. That pain cut deeper before grandma spoke.

I remember that morning, it was replaying like a CD on the stereo; round and round; Not the ferris wheel that stops at the top but the wheels on the bus like the baby song.

I remember, I remember IT ALL…

All too well. My mother, absent! I just saw her, how could it be? The bed she laid was not her own. Stepping into that room, it was as empty and dark as a bottomless well. I was blank but I knew she was gone and I knew it would all be okay because I remember that morning.
