The Best Looks of the 2023 Met Gala!
The annual Met Gala was held last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City in honor of the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, who administered fashion houses such as Chanel, Fendi, Balmain and Chloé. The Gala has been hosted by Vogue’s Anna Wintour since 1999, and will be joined this year by Penélope Cruz, Roger Federer, Dua Lipa, Michaela Coel as co-chairs. The guest list included A-list actors, singers, models, artists and athletes. Here are some of the best looks of the night!
1. Dua Lipa
One of my favorite women in the entire world, Dua wore a 1992 fall Chanel Haute Couture dress by Lagerfeld with a vaulted Tiffany & Co. diamond necklace. She was named one of the best dressed celebrities at the Met Gala by Cosmopolitan, Vogue, ELLE, Rolling Stone, New York Times, Vanity Fair, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and more media outlets.
2. Halle Bailey
Disney’s newest Little Mermaid stunned in a Gucci ensemble consisting of a sparkling lace halter-neck gown and dramatic ruffled cape.
3. Conan Gray
The 24-year-old singer attended his second Met Gala wearing a black and white pearl-encrusted jacket by Balmain. The look was tied together with leather pants, booties and a pearl-covered fan.
4. Ava Max
The “Sweet But Psycho” singer made her Met Gala debut in a custom-made Christian Siriano gown with a detachable tulle train and completed with a matching headpiece. Siriano shared on Instagram that the gown was embellished with more than 6,000 crystals and pearls!
5. Taika Waititi
The film director wore a floor-length blazer-style overcoat as tribute to Lagerfeld with black lapels and cream trousers. The sharp collar and string of pearls are an additional nod to the designer’s key details.
6. Diddy
Diddy wore a custom couture Sean Jean ensemble that included a black motorcycle tuxedo made with 600 Swarovski crystals and pearls, a taffeta puffer cape adorned with more than 1,000 custom camellia flowers and several accessories inspired by Lagerfeld. The rapper tweeted that his look was designed as a dual tribute to both Lagerfeld and André Leon Talley.
7. Paris Hilton
The reality TV star made her Met Gala debut in an all black leather mermaid gown made with gloved sleeves and a rhinestone bustier that she designed in collaboration with Marc Jacobs. She accessorized with a rosette choker necklace and sparkling platform heels (I’m obsessed with platform shoes at the moment). Jacobs told Vogue on the carpet that he thought it would be interesting and exciting to see Paris in a black gown, as it’s not a typical color in her otherwise colorful wardrobe, and that she was completely into the idea.
8. Jackson Wang
The K-Pop singer from boy band Got7 made his Met Gala debut dressed in an all-black Louis Vuitton ensemble made with an embellished cropped jacket, complete with signature Lagerfeld accessories; sunglasses and leather gloves (points for gray hair too)! The singer perfectly paid homage to the late designer while also embracing his own style.
9. Jenna Ortega
The actress turned heads in a high-fashion Victoriana look by Thom Browne with a fitted lace-up corset, sheer black knee-high socks, patent heeled black-and-white brogues and a dramatic ruffled skirt behind her. The look honored Lagerfeld with its black and white palette as well as the gold chain and pearl detailing. Very Wednesday Addams inspired, too!
10. Rihanna
It would be criminal to leave out the queen! Rihanna looked gorgeous in a Valentino hooded gown covered in camellia flowers as an ode to Lagerfeld, and a long skirt train. The fingerless gloves were also Lagerfeld-inspired. The look was paired with a BVLGARI necklace consisting of seven pear diamonds, 118 Akita cultured pearls, 109 round diamonds and 561 shaped diamonds. She attended the event with partner A$AP Rocky and second child (if you count them as a guest yet, but I do).
