Well it’s almost March and usually St. John Fisher College student have some kind of spring break for a week.

But in late October of 2020, the school announced it was delaying the start of the spring semester, and removing the spring break week off in an effort to eliminate travel.

So what do we do now?

It’s understandable to be upset at COVID-19 for screwing everyone’s plans over but there is a bit of solace to this problem. Summer break is closer than one would think and at that point, students are really masters of their own schedule.

So when it comes to trying to survive another COVID-19 school year, try to keep some things in mind:

  1. Grades are important and passing is obviously the name of the game before you can really get to enjoying your summer break.
  2. If you DO have summer schooling that needs to be done, make sure you’re splitting your time efficiently  so you can, in a sense, min-max your time between fun and actual work.
  3. If you plan on going out, save up, plan up, and mask up just in case the pandemic is still hitting and you really want to head out. Safety is still the name of the game.

We’ve got a decent amount of time before said fun times are to be had, however, you can still make the best of this situation.

The same tips can be applied to hanging out during a weekend in the spring; save up, plan up, and mask up. It might not nearly be as interesting as going out for summer break but you have to make do with what you have.

One could even try to make something as mundane as a study session a bit more interesting if they really wanted to spice up their current spring semester by bringing more “party” food like pizza and the like. Bring the snacks, have a good time, crack a few jokes.

In a time of deprived social engagement we need to make the best of what we’ve got and even if we’re here to see each other up front and in person please do what you can in order to stay safe.

Despite the fact that we’re still in school, nobody wants to get sent back home just like last year after seeing a large outbreak of cases on campus. So again, ensure you’re safe and make sure your friends are safe too.

A lack of a spring break, again can still allow students to plan ahead and ensure that they can enjoy more of their summer break if everything goes as planned and everything is done and accounted for.

Pay attention to the weather, plan your ideas for Summer in just a few months and make sure you’re able to pass and not have to worry about summer classes.

The less one has to worry about, the better off you’ll be for the break. So go out there, pass those classes, save that money, and make sure you make the most of your current semester and stay safe doing it!
