Welcome to Books Behind Bars! Join Lejla Zornic and Nicole Pomerleau, as well as special guests, as they discuss different banned books to give the power back to the pages!

This episode, Lejla and Nicole discuss “The Hate You Give” by Angie Thomas. They cover chapters 1-10, and discuss the topics of implicit bias, white washing, code switching and more.

Lejla Zornic, Marketing and Outreach Coordinator

Lejla Zornic is a senior Media and Communication major attending St. John Fisher University. She currently serve as the Marketing and Outreach Coordinator for the Courier. She dedicates her time to volunteering as an English tutor in hopes of igniting love for learning with the students she works with. She has found a special interest in social media marketing and plans to build her skill set in the digital content realm.

Nicole Pomerleau, Lead Photographer

Nicole Pomerleau is currently a senior Media and Communication major at Fisher with minors in Film and Television Studies and Interdisciplinary Arts. She currently serves as the Lead Photographer and has been a member of the Cardinal Courier for three years as a staff photographer. At the Courier, Nicole has been able to explore and focus on her love for photography. Nicole covers a range of events but has a focus on sports photography.

Ranya Alsalahi '26, Multimedia Contributor

Gianna Melendez ’26, Design Contributor

Gianna Melendez is a junior media and communication major who hopes to enter a career in digital design. She currently designs artwork for the Cardinal Courier, including logos and Instagram posts. She dedicates her time to increasing her skills in drawing, painting, photography, and tattooing.
